The Christ United Methodist Church of Olean and the Western New York Alzheimer’s Caregiver Partnership are offering a Free Respite Program called “Caring Heart”.
Trained volunteers offer fun, supervised activities to keep your loved one purposefully occupied while you take a much needed break. The program is available to caregivers on the second Tuesday of each month, from 10:30-2:30, at the Christ United Methodist Church, located at 633 Linwood Avenue. Registration and Sponsorships are now being taken for the 26th annual Jamestown Community College Classic Golf Tournament, set for Wednesday, May 23 at Bartlett Country Club in Olean. Registration begins at 11am, with a shotgun start at noon. The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Employees Benevolent Association is now taking applications for their 2018 Scholarship Award in the amount of $500. The Scholarship is available to any high school senior who is planning on entering the Criminal Justice or Police Science Field, and is limited to Law Enforcement only.
Any interested person should contact their local guidance office in their school for an application. Applications need to be postmarked no later than May 31, 2018.
Due to a temporary shortage in the office at the Cattaraugus County Veteran’s Service Agency, it is strongly advised Veterans seeking assistance should call for an appointment, at (716)701-3298. While Walk-ins will not be turned away, they cannot guarantee timely service. For Veterans that normally attend the Gowanda, Randolph, Franklinville or Little Valley satellite sites, please call ahead to ensure a representative from the office will be there. This will be in effect until at least June 1, 2018.
The 2nd Annual Bruce Chandler Memorial Motorcycle Dice Run is set to take place Saturday, June 9, starting and ending at the Cuba VFW Post 2721 Banquet Hall. Registration from 10:30-noon…begin the run when you are ready. The event also includes a public Chicken BBQ (Pre-Sale Only), basket raffles(Baskets raffled off at 5:00pm), and music. $20 per person to ride, with a Chicken BBQ included in the donation.

Proceeds will be donated to support the Veteran’s Administration’s PTSD and Suicide Prevention Programs.
The Cattaraugus County Department of Aging has an immediate need for drivers to deliver its Meals on Wheels meals in the Olean area. The deliveries take place Monday thru Friday…volunteers deliver an average of a dozen meals one day a week, and it takes about an hour to complete the deliveries. The Cattaraugus-Allegany League of Women Voters is sponsoring a high school voter registration drive called “First Vote” in all Allegany and Cattaraugus County high schools, starting May 16th, and ending June 6th. Ask at your local high school guidance office, and watch for “First Vote” flyers in your high school.
The League of Women Voters is a non-profit and non-partisan organization-it neither supports nor opposes candidates for parties.

The Northcentral PA AHEC is holding a free Freedom From Smoking program, beginning Wednesday, May 16, at UPMC Cole in Couderport.
